So who has the world’s fastest Police vehicle…Tuned investigates

Ever ask yourself what kind of countermeasures cops have for your finely tuned machine as you drive down whichever highway you may find yourself on? Tuned has asked itself just that and for those of you living in the states, you are safe, we promise.

As for those of you living in Italy or Germany, you may want to read further…

In 2004, Lamborghini S.p.A donated two brand new Gallardos equipped to the brink with scanners, strobes and a full “Polizia” paint job. This meant that the Polizia Stradale could monitor areas known for their speeders or early morning joyriders at their own discretion with two very superior vehicles.  As a matter of fact, Lamborghini even updated the fleet with the 2008 models and have made further improvements for this special highway unit.

Now as for the Germans, Tuned has been relayed information that would suggest that they have been provided with an E63 AMG for high speed pursuits on the limited areas of the Autobahn, where it is highly illegal to break the speed limit by even a single digit.

What is ironic about all this is that both Mercedes and Lamborghinis were clocked at the 2008 Essen Motor show at over 215 mph, an incredible mark for fully equipped police cars.

So now we have figured out who is the fastest and that you don’t want to mess with either the Italians or Germans right? Wrong…things get worse.

Sources tell us that the Germans are in deep negotiations with Brabus to create a one off version of their Brabus Rocket for exclusive police use. Top speed estimated at 227 mph… Better pull out the Bugatti out of the garage if you plan on evading this one!

For those of your who never saw the original Brabus Police concept, it is a 770 Twin Turbo CLS-based monster! Here are some pictures for all of you to enjoy.

Badder Boys: When Police level the playing field

Badder Boys: When Police level the playing field

Stopped at a red, you look to your right. A jet-black Mustang GT with white racing stripes glares back. You rev the engine and the light flashes green. White smoke billows as rubber meets pavement and you take off screaming through the open intersection. As you shift into second, you glance at the rear view mirror. The Mustang is keeping up. It’s also pulling you over.

Just another day for traffic enforcement officers in the Detroit suburb of Harper Woods, Michigan.

From the left, the car appears as nothing more than your everyday Mustang — no markings or badges indicative of a police vehicle. But cross to the right and the word “POLICE” printed in bold lettering stares back from the fender along with a police insignia and the phrase “traffic enforcement” scrolled down the side.

Deputy chief of police James Burke said the car is frequently mistaken for a potential racer.

“We’ve had a lot of people wanting to drag race our officers,” Burke said. “They’ll pull up and rev their engine.”

“They didn’t know it was a police car until too late,” added officer Tom Silva.

And if you’re unlucky enough to make that mistake, expect to be immediately greeted by an array of blue and red lights cleverly tucked in at the top of the front and bottom of the back windshields, beneath the side-view mirrors and between the two strobe fog lights on the grill.

Pop the hood, however, and the surprises end. Although this writer may have hoped for a supercharged 5.4L pony mill — stock in Ford’s beefier Shelby GT-500 – the cruiser sports the GT’s standard 4.6L V8 powerplant. Though 300 hp is nothing to shake a stick at, especially among a fleet of tired Crown Victoria Interceptors.

“It’s just so damn fast!” Burke said.

Fortunately for lead-footed motorists, it’s unlikely you’ll be seeing many more of these stealthy speed extinguishers. Apparently, due to the low ground clearance, poor handling in icy or even wet conditions and the almost non-existent back seat, the Mustang is not exactly the ideal police car.

But at least it looks cool.

Slovak Police unveil new Audi S4 fleet

Watch out law-breakers….Here comes Slovak Highway Police, with…. Audi S4s? Yup you heard right! Slovak police have decided to upgrade a fleet of their highway interceptors to 2008 Audi S4 B7 sedans with 350 hp 4.2L V8 motors ready to patrol the areas synonymous with speeders.audi-s4-radar-2.jpg

Four vehicles have been purchased thus far with an option for 4 more in the future. Don’t expect 8 Audis to be on the street though as they expect to cut down speeding by 30% in 2009 simply by showing the general populace their artillery.
The special Audis are equipped with laser and radar technology capable of tracking speeds if the cruiser is in motion, parked or pacing a car! The detectors are accurate to 0.01 km/h and will assure that no speeder is left unattended.  Plans also include for an Audi A8 fleet to be available to detectives and high ranking officers.
Now we would like to address our national State Troopers. Wouldn’t a fleet of these things stateside just make Police so much cooler? We thinks so…
