After what many called the strangest accident to ever happen in Formula 1, Felipe Massa has been cleared by Budapest doctors to fly home today onboard his private chartered jet. Massa will begin a series of 6 weeks of rehabilitation and will more then likely be out for the remainder of the 2009 Formula 1 World Championship. Retired World Champion, Michael Schumacher, will be taking his spot indefinitely aboard Ferrari’s F60 beginning in Valencia for the European Grand Prix.
“I feel good”, said Massa to Italian media,” better then I probably should right now but I’m looking forward to getting better and recovering quickly”.
Massa becomes the second Brazilian in 15 years to have been injured or killed by a suspension component striking the helmet as we can recall Ayrton Senna’s tragic death at Imola in 1994.
