Update: Avid followers listen-up! The United States Formula One (USF1) team has been officially spoken for entering the 2010 World Championship. At the press conference today, Peter Windsor announced that team headquarters will be in North Carolina and that the drivers will be exclusively American. Scott Speed will bring experience to the team, having been in Formula One racing for RedBull Racing, emerging from the RedBull driver development program. Team sporting Director, Peter Windsor, said that the second seat will be open for someone who has no F1 experience in order to bring fresh blood to the grid.
In fact, Danica Patrick was quoted last week as being “flattered” by rumors of her being linked to a test with the USF1 team and would be excited if such a thing were to materialize. Other drivers being rumored to come onboard would be Marco Andretti, a young man bread in the blood of racing’s most famous family.
Technical data from the possible chassis and engine package are not clear but Windsor was quoted as saying that USF1 would have to accept a non-US engine supplier, but believes the American connection will be attractive to the manufacturers already in F1.
“As much as it would be great to have one of the top three (car companies) from Detroit, no (it won’t happen),” he said.
“In fact, the Formula 1 regulations won’t even allow that anyway because the engine is now frozen, the regulations are frozen, you’ve got to run an engine from one of the existing Formula 1 suppliers, and we all know who those are.

“It’s just a question of doing a deal with one of those companies.
“Let’s not forget that America is the biggest market for virtually every car company in Formula 1, so I think there’s going to be some interest in USF1.”
