PETERBOROUGH, UK – As technology advances and the economy seems to be free falling towards an endless slump, smaller automakers are doing the mainstream manufacturers’ jobs by researching and developing alternative means of motorization. A clear example of this is British Supercar manufacturer Lightning Car Company by creating their “GT” vehicle. Powered by direct drive motors, the GT has 650 HP and is capable of accelerating to 60 mph from a standstill in 3.7 seconds. Top speed is limited to 130 mph but the car offers excitement nonetheless. The car is constructed around a carbon/kevlar composite shell to minimize weight and the motors can be recharged within 10 minutes, providing that sufficient power is readily available. Expect the car to roll into showrooms in late 2009 and orders are now being taken with a $5,000 deposit. Prices are set to start at $275,000.
